Elder abuse is, despite the national hotline is still the dirty little family secret. It takes many forms. Nothing obvious - hit or physically abuse people - the more subtle. Cry, cry, threaten. That creates a watchful community around that can interfere or limit any abusive language and call the police for the abusive action. Most adult children can work together to make this happen, especially if they see it as a solution to the problems of parents.
Often, the father-abuser may be someone who seems perfectly fine. You can have good friends and a good reputation and still be guilty of abuse of a parent. Of course there are usually reasons - bad family relations, alcoholism or drug abuse, greed for the wealth of the parents.
If you think an older person is being abused in any way, be informed. Nobody needs to know it was you. But do not let an old man at the mercy of the abuses.
